What are some of those marketing mistakes? I’ve compiled a list of five death blows – OK, that’s a little dramatic – five of the biggest marketing mistakes that many make when building a business online. These mistakes are:

  3. Failure to Learn New Techniques and strategies
  4. Not being consistent
  5. Are boring – lack of understanding the information gap

Build Your Audience

As a marketer you are constantly looking for ways to increase your readership, to increase value to your brand, which is usually yourself. If you are to become all that you can in terms of developing into a professional online marketer then you must continue to gain and perfect the skills similar to those that are successful.

This is not always easy to do, there is no doubt about that, but who really cares, it has to be done.

By the way, I’m really sick of all of these people that are looking for free stuff. I’m tired of hearing how someone wants to find ways to make a lot of money that don’t cost anything – that’s a mistake too, to think that there is a way to do this…wake up!

OK, got that off of my chest!

Always Create Quality Content

So, creating sloppy content, number 1 on the list. If you are doing it, STOP it! If you are creating junk content then you are going to be known as the marketer that creates junk and no one will want to follow you, no one will trust you.

Be Yourself

Number 2 on the list is not being yourself and I admit that this has been my own worst mistake. You see, I believe that I write my best articles, my best eBooks when I am on a rant of sorts. Basically, when my emotions and passions are “high” I seem to create some of my best “stuff.”

The problem for me is that when I come back to my article or whatever it is that I have written, I change it. I “tone it down” under the guise of being “professional.” Yep, it’s b.s., but I have done this none the less. As someone that has committed this cardinal sin of sorts, I am making the promise now that I am not going to change this content any longer and that I am going to be as genuine a version of me as possible.

Learn More Today and Know More Tomorrow

At number 3 is the failure of getting additional training or education. Guys, this one is huge. The Internet is very dynamic and fluid, things change and that change occurs very often and very quickly. You have to stay on top of things and you have to continue to increase your skill set and further perfect your existing skills.

One of the Biggest Marketing Mistakes Ever? Inconsistency

The fourth mistake that marketers make is the mistake of being inconsistent. I know that much of the time I sound like a broken record of sorts when it comes to certain things, and this is one of those times where I’m going to pull out my soap box and go for it. YOU HAVE TO BE CONSISTENT when creating and posting content.

I don’t want to hear this crap about how you can’t write, don’t know what to write about or don’t have time. Really? Then go do something else.

Like it or not, you are going to have to create content, either written content or through the use of some other media. If you don’t want to write then make videos. You don’t want to make videos, that’s fine, start the process of making a podcast or audio content. If you don’t want to do that…then GO AWAY, you are lazy.

Keep it Interesting

Number 5 on my list of mistakes is not to be boring! Yep, that’s right, don’t be dull. So how do you become interesting? First of all, understand that folks that are coming to your site are looking for something. What are they looking for? I don’t know for sure, but maybe you do. If you have done your job right then you have attracted people that are indeed looking for information – hopefully information that you have created, something of value.

You are going to make mistakes, there is no doubt about that, but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t learn from your mistakes, other’s mistakes or even my mistakes. I think you would agree though that the goal here is to get to the p0int where you aren’t making the same mistakes and especially not making these basic mistakes listed in this article.
